Den Haag Import/ Export

Home

I made a series of linocuts “Den Haag Import/ Export” by order of the The-Hague municipality-archive. The assignment was to picture the urban renewal. I didn’t choose for portraying architecture that would have been the obvious, but instead I chose to portrait the new citizens. Migrants and migrant shops changed the view of city centers throughout Western Europe. Enterprising shopkeepers are adventurous and colorful and therefore a rewarding subject for my prints. What’s more, as a self-employed artist I feel some sort of connection with them.
